I oppose abortion and support the sanctity of life and defend those who cannot protect themselves. 

 

 

As a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, I have worked to protect our farmers, including our peanut and cotton growers, who are vital to the Second District economy.  I also believe that farmers are the best stewards of the land.  They provide Americans with the most bountiful food supply in the world at the lowest cost in the world.

 

 

I support increased domestic exploration for energy sources and environmentally-safe tapping of oil and gas reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.  Furthermore, I support the expansion of domestic oil refinery and storage capacity.  I also support the research and development of alternatives to petroleum energy, such as bio fuels.

 

I support legislation that would first secure our borders and deal with illegal aliens.  It is impossible to merge illegal into legal by an act of Congress.  We have to know the “who and why” concerning those entering our country.

 

 

I oppose activist federal judges who attempt to rewrite the law.  I support the reform of class action lawsuits as well as medical liability lawsuits, while limiting liability awards.

 

 

I support the preservation of Medicare and the establishment of a prescription drug program to provide affordable drugs for seniors who need them.

 

 

As a senior member of the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees, I support our troops and a strong national defense.  I have voted to give our armed forces the most advance weapons they need to protect America.  Furthermore, I support America’s war against terrorism and believe that it is in our national interest to stop terrorists overseas before they can do us harm here at home.

 

 

I support the right of private property ownership and oppose the Supreme Court ruling allowing states and local governments to seize private property under eminent domain for dubious purposes such as to construct shopping malls and hotels.

 

 

I strongly support the Constitution’s Second Amendment right of our citizens to own and bear arms.

 

 

I support America’s and Alabama’s largest job provider – small business – through less government regulation and reducing federal mandates. 

 

 

I support protecting Social Security for the benefit of current and future generations.

 

 

I supported federal tax relief including the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act and the Jobs Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act passed since 2001.  These measures have lowered the tax burden on nearly all American workers who pay federal income tax.  Historic 30-year lows in unemployment both in Alabama and nationally have shown that giving back taxpayers more of their own hard-earned money benefits both the taxpayer and the economy.

 

 

As a senior member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I have consistently supported increased funding for our Veterans.  I have worked for the establishment of better health care and benefits for our nation’s 26 million veterans.
